When It Rains, I Remember…
It always starts the same way. Sky turns gray. The air gets heavier. And then you hear it, soft at first, like someone gently knocking on your roof. Then louder. Steady. Insistent. The rain settles in, and just like that, the world slows down. That’s usually when the rainy day thoughts start pouring in too.
I don’t know what it is about rain. Maybe it’s the way it slows everything down. Or how it makes the streets shimmer like a low-budget music video. But when it rains, I remember things. Some happy. Some not. Some I thought I forgot already.
The Soundtrack That Triggers Rainy Day Thoughts
There’s a kind of music that fits rainy weather perfectly. You know what I’m talking about. It’s not party music. It’s not even your gym playlist. It’s those soft, borderline dramatic songs you’d never admit you love, but you do. Think Daniel Caesar, SZA, Billie Eilish, maybe a little OPM like Ben&Ben. Suddenly, you’re in your feels, staring out the window like you’re in a teleserye. The perfect background to your rainy day thoughts.
One time, I walked home in the rain with my headphones on, pretending I was in a scene. I was just going to 7-Eleven, but in my head, I was main character energy.
Rainy Memories That Stick And Stir Up Thoughts
Rain pulls things out of you. Like random memories you haven’t thought about in years. It could be a song that plays in your head, or the way the air smells before the downpour. Suddenly, you’re somewhere else entirely, living through old rainy memories without warning.
It’s not always dramatic. Sometimes it’s just comforting. Like being a kid, stuck indoors with no school, chitchatting with family over merienda. Playing board games or cards with cousins while waiting for the rain to stop. Or watching cartoons with a blanket wrapped around you and hot chocolate in hand.
And merienda always hits different when it’s raining. My favorite? Champorado with overflowing powdered milk on top. Not sprinkled, dumped. You mix it halfway, leave the top layer milky, and it’s perfect every time.

There was also that one road trip where the rain poured nonstop, but we still kept going. Laughter inside the car, fogged-up windows, gas station snacks, someone DJ-ing from the front seat.
Funny how water falling from the sky can bring back entire years in your head. The best rainy day thoughts don’t always make sense, but they always hit.
Rainy Day Thoughts Hit Different, It’s a Mood, Not Just Weather
Here’s the weird part. Rain doesn’t always make me sad. Sometimes, it actually feels good. Like it’s okay to slow down and just feel stuff. When you’re always chasing deadlines and scrolling through too much noise online, rain gives you an excuse to pause.
It’s like nature telling you, “Hoy. Pahinga ka muna.”
Maybe that’s why I kind of look forward to it sometimes. It gives me permission to be quiet, to be still, to just be. That’s rare these days. And that’s when the best rainy day thoughts sneak in.
Not Gonna Lie, Rain Also Brings Out My Weird Side
One time it rained while I was in a coffee shop and I caught myself staring at a cup of brewed coffee for five minutes straight. No thoughts, just vibes. It made me think, “Do I have my life together?” and then immediately, “Should I get another cookie?”
Rain makes you overthink, but in the most random way.
I’ve had thoughts like:
- “What if I moved to Baguio and just disappeared for a while?”
- “Should I have said ‘haha’ or ‘hahaha’ in that reply?”
- “Why did I eat that last piece of lechon last night?”
- “What if I just deactivate all my socials tonight?”
- “Why am I suddenly thinking about my old high school crush?”
- “Is this rain telling me something or am I just hungry?”
These rainy day thoughts are rarely useful, but they’re part of the vibe.
Some People Dance, I Sit With My Rainy Day Thoughts
I know some people hate the rain. They complain about traffic, wet shoes, canceled plans. But honestly? I think it brings more than just hassle. It brings honesty. When it rains, you’re forced to sit with your thoughts. You hear yourself better.
And maybe that’s what we need more of. Less noise. More rain. More moments for our rainy day thoughts to make sense.
So… What About You?
When it rains, what do you remember?
A person? A place? A version of yourself you miss? Or maybe you’re like me, just happy to hide under a blanket, sipping coffee, and overthinking everything with lo-fi playing in the background.
Whatever it is, it’s valid.
Because sometimes, rain doesn’t just fall. It makes things rise too. Memories. Feelings. Rainy day thoughts you’ve been trying to ignore.
And that’s okay.
Let it pour.

I love this! Totally relatable—there’s just something about rainy days and moody music that makes everything feel cinematic. I’ve done the same thing, and it really does feel like you’re in your own little movie.
Loved this! And I feel the same – rainy weather always brings back my memories. I don’t know why, but there’s just something about it.
I love a good rainy day! It’s honestly a vibe!
